Past or Present? Empty Past or Present?

I'm starting something new, and I'm not sure if I should write it in past or present. Which do you prefer, and think is best?

It really depends. What do you prefer? What suits the story?

Generally, I think past is best. It's easier, more common and I think you can do a bit more with it. Present gives a sense of immediacy if that's what you want Smile

As Mac says, it depends on the story itself. Personally, if it's in third person, then I prefer past tense, but if it's in first person, I prefer present.
If you didn't mind giving some more info about this new story, then I could maybe give a more definite opinion

Well, I don't know what's it supposed to turn out like myself. But I'm doing it in third person, and I agree, I do have more options when writing in past tense.

    Thanks!

Oh and I forgot to mention something - if you're writing in 1st person and there's a death scene, present is a bit better unless you're OK with a narrating dead character XD
