    Emily Dickinson Empty Emily Dickinson

    Post by Lizzie Fri Aug 05, 2011 5:46 pm

    Emily is one of my favorite poets. I read this poem a long time ago, and absolutely fell in love with it:

    Hope is the thing...

    Hope is the thing with feathers
    That perches in the soul,
    And sings the tune without the words,
    And never stops at all,

    And sweetest in the gale is heard;
    And sore must be the storm
    That could abash the little bird
    That kept so many warm.

    I've heard it in the chilliest land
    And on the strangest sea;
    Yet, never, in extremity,
    It asked a crumb of me.

    I love it. Especially the last two lines. Smile

    I've never heard that poem before, but I love it! It's simple, yet so powerful and accurate. I have never been a huge poetry fan myself, but after reading this I might go and look up some more of her work. Very Happy
