    Hi all!
I need help with rewriting chapter 2. I've used the word 'foolish' at least 5 times! Does anyone know any synonyms for 'foolish' that a president would say? (Or at least someone in a position and somewhat 'posh'...)

This is now your thread if you need help finding synonyms and antonyms and when the thesaurus is bad Wink

Um, off the top of my head: absurd, half-witted, senseless and preposterous.

    Beam, grin, smirk, sneer

If you're writing in Croatian you can put in smešak, kez.

That's the thing though; smirk and sneer both conquer up images of unpleasantness. This guy is sincerely happy. But thanks for beam though. I didn't think of that one.

I am having this exact problem!!!

What I'm trying to do at the moment is insert other actions, which, within the context of the novel, would probably accompany a good-natured smile. No matter how many synonyms you have, it will seem really repetitive if you are always saying how a certain character is always smiling.

As a random explain I'm going to make up on the spot:

This version mentions the word "grin":

When Jason arrived in the doorway, Sophie was on the floor, surrounded by a sea of papers from upturned desk drawers.

    She looked up sheepishly.

"Don't tell me," he said, grinning. "You haven't lost it again, have you?"

"So what if I have," she said, flicking up her chin defiantly.

This one, does not, yet to me, it still conjures a similar image:

When Jason arrived in the doorway, Sophie was on the floor, surrounded by a sea of papers from upturned desk drawers.

    She looked up sheepishly.

"Don't tell me," he said, rolling his eyes. "You haven't lost it again, have you?"

"So what if I have," she said, flicking up her chin defiantly.

They seem to say the same thing Emma XD Except it just shows the different reactions the same person had. So on the first one he reacted by grinning and the second he rolled his eyes. He probably did both but it focused on two different parts of his reaction Very Happy I think the second is better though Razz

That's a good idea, Emma! A really great one in fact. Tomorrow I'll even do some people-watching, research a little bit and then replace all the 'smiles' and 'grins'.

Mac, can you change the topic name to just Synonyms? So we don't have to open a new topic every time we need a different name for something.

Have you guys noticed that the forum is getting kinda messy? We open topics that could be discussed in a topic that already exists, and most topics have like 5 replies.
